Freesource Energy Solar panels
Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
Generate cheap, green electricity from sunlight.
Solar electricity systems capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances, such as Electric Range Cookers including Aga and Everhot and lighting. PV cells don't need direct sunlight to work - you can still generate electricity on a cloudy day.
How do Solar Photovoltaic (PV) cells work?
PV cells are panels you can attach to your roof or walls. Each cell is made from one or two layers of semiconducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers.

Main benefits of solar electricity
- Cut your carbon footprint: solar electricity is green and doesn't release any harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) or other pollutants. A typical home PV system could save around 1tonne of CO2 per year - that's around 25 tonnes over its lifetime.
- Cut your electricity bills: sunlight is free, so once you've paid for the initial installation your electricity costs will be greatly reduced. A typical home PV system can produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year.
- Sell electricity back to the Grid: if your system is producing more electricity than you need, or when you can't use it, someone else can use it - and you could make some money.
Other PV Benefits include:
- Your own cheap, clean and renewable power source generating free electricity all year long.
- Only daylight is required, so will work all year long.
- Increase the value of your property
- Surplus electricity sold back to national grid
- No maintenance required
- Silent operation
- Reduce the impact of global warming with a relatively cheap and green solar alternative.
- Installation of solar panels is clean, very little space extra required in your house.
Go GREEN with your Range Cooker
The solar photovoltaic (PV) system is good news for Range cooker owners particularly the Electric Aga and Everhot that require a constant supply of electric. Sun light is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your electricity costs will be greatly reduced. A typical home PV system can produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year.
Feed-In Tariff
The FITs scheme guarantees a minimum payment for all electricity generated by the system, as well as a separate payment for the electricity exported to grid. These payments are in addition to the bill savings made by using the electricity generated on-site.
Once you have a solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed you should experience a monthly reduction in your electricity bill and then receive an income from your Feed-in tariff provider.
A typical return of between 7% and 14% can be expected on your investment year-on year. A financial model will be prepared for you as part of your estimate, giving anticipated figures for your particular property.
FREE PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) SOLAR
At Cast Iron Range Cookers we always try to give our customers options and this is precisely why we have introduced different financial models for the purchase of renewable energy products.
In this instance we have allied ourselves with Freesource Energy who are a well established installer of paid-for solar who have just launched a Free Solar PV offer where qualifying houses can have free solar panels installed on the roof.
Some background - What is Free Solar PV?
The reason that solar panels are an excellent investment is that there is a generous government subsidy in the form of a payment called the Feed In Tariff (FIT). Homeowners who purchase a PV System therefore get three benefits:
- Help the environment
- Save on their electricity bills
- Receive the FIT payment
There is now the option of having the system fitted free of charge, in this event the homeowner still gets the first two benefits but the FIT payment goes to whoever paid for the installation.
Customers who take up this offer have the option of buying the system later and will receive the FIT from that time forward.
To qualify for free solar panel installation the system must be capable of delivering 3,000 unit per annum and the following general rules apply:
- Minimum of 25 m2 of roof space
- Roof orientation between South East and South West
- Relatively up to date electrical system
- Standard pitched roof (I.e. not a flat roof)
- No shading on the roof
Buy Back option
These benefits apply for 25 years, but with Freesource they offer you the opportunity to ‘buy back’ at anytime to give you complete freedom of choice and total peace of mind should your circumstances change in the future.
THE NEXT STEP
If you are interested in Photavoltaic (PV) Electric Solar system please contact us today to discuss your requirements. Before installation a full techical evaluation to check suitability of roof and electrical connections is required. A personal PV system will then be designed for your property.
